In theory, workers who telecommute or work on an independent freelance basis can live anywhere from the bayous of Louisiana to the deserts of Arizona, as long as he or she can use the internet and talk on the phone.
Yet some cities are still better than others for the growing portion of the American workforce. Realtor.com found the ten best metros for freelancers and telecommuters. The study was based on a variety of factors, including home and rental prices, internet connection strength, healthcare costs, and access to gyms, coffees shops, and bars.
Las Vegas earned the top spot due to its preponderance of bars and coffee shops, along with its reasonable housing prices, and, most importantly, lack of a state income tax. Other cities that made the list include Salt Lake City, Atlanta, and Minneapolis.
