Bad news for luxury buyers with arachnophobia. If a spider reaches the ceiling at a new condo or penthouse, it may as well be on the moon.
Realtor.com noted that developers have begun to stress higher ceilings, often between 11 and 20 feet, in some of their more expensive properties. The site found that raising the ceiling height from 8 or 9 feet to even just 10 or 11 feet can lead to a 50 percent jump in the average listing price per square foot. The analysis focused on listings in New York, Illinois, Southern California, Massachusetts, and South Florida.
In addition to headroom, taller ceilings provide more light and better views with floor-to-ceiling windows.
