With access to outdoor activities, affordable homes, and high annual income growth, Wylie, Texas, was named as the best small city for families by NerdWallet.
The site compiled a top-100 list, examining 245 cities and towns in the U.S. with populations from 25,000 to 100,000. Home value, affordability, income and growth, and schools and crime were among the main considerations for the rankings.
Wylie, a city of 44,000 just 30 miles outside of Dallas, was one of the many suburbs that made the list. Suburbs were found to offer the convenience of higher-paying jobs without long commutes.
Texas suburbs in particular were well-represented. Along with Wylie, suburbs of Dallas (Allen and Little Elm), Houston (League City and Pearland), and Austin (Leander) finished in the top 10.
