Many people have halcyon memories of the Midwest neighborhoods where they grew up that rival the idyllic and charming image of the Midwest found in 1957’s Dandelion Wine. But believe it or not, these memories can actually be lived out again, and not just within nostalgic works of fiction. All you need to do is head to one of the highly walkable mid-size cities with small town charm found on Redfin’s list of the most walkable (midsize) cities in the Midwest.
Downtown Ann Arbor, Mich., came out on top of the list with a Walk Score of 94.1. Possibly the most classic example of what constitutes a college town in the entirety of the United States, Ann Arbor has various cultural, dining, and entertainment options available that are all easily accessible by foot.
Another Michigan locale took the number two spot on the list in the form of the Heartside district within downtown Grand Rapids. Downtown St. Paul, Minn., Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, and Downtown Madison, Wis., round out the top five on the list.
