The Old Town neighborhood in Columbus, Ga., features a town hall with longleaf pine floorboards and a steeple bell. Brick and clapboard mercantile buildings line Main Street. A bright red mill building houses a screening room and soda fountain.
Unlike what the name suggests, Old Town is a $45 million mixed-use development that is currently completing its first phase of construction. As Realtor.com reports, it is just one of the growing number of traditional community developments that offers homebuyers a slice of small town Americana.
Homes have porches, sidewalks, and historic-looking features. The neighborhoods are designed for walkability, with quaint downtown districts as the centerpiece.
