Wood framing is still the go-to choice. Last year, 603,000 wood-framed single-family homes were completed, accounting for 93 percent of all houses.
NAHB Eye on Housing analyzed Census Bureau data. In 2015, seven percent of houses (42,000) were concrete homes, and less than half a percent (2,000) were steel-framed.
Non-wood based framing methods are primarily concentrated in the South. For 2015, 98% of concrete framed homes were built in the South. Similarly, and almost all steel-framed homes were constructed in the the South.
