Mud rooms are emerging as a trend among homebuyers, while demand for outdoor living dipped slightly though still topping the list, the American Institute of Architects' quarterly Home Design Trends Survey reveals.
This year, the survey’s findings are presented in a new visual format, which the association says “is intended to help you quickly identify emerging trends in home design by using visual cues to scroll over and pull up charts and figures with findings for each quarter.”
The Q2 report covers “Home Features,” while Q1 addresses “Home and Property Design”; Q3, “Neighborhood and Community Design”; and Q4, “Kitchen and Bath.”
Other home features gaining popularity compared to last year are first floor master bedrooms and on-grade entry. Extra insulation in attic, though experiencing a nine percentage point dip, still topped the list of special home features.
