It might not be hip or trendy, but the middle of America might be due for a migration of people from the coasts.
The Q3 Zillow Home Price Expectations Survey asked a panel of 113 economic and real estate experts about projections and future home value growth. A majority of the respondents said that Millennials, many of whom have sought jobs or a more favorable lifestyle on the coasts, are returning or eventually will return to the Heartland, which boasts upsides like job growth and more affordable housing.
Panelists were also asked about home value expectations, and respondents on average expected to end the year up 4.5 percent year-over-year. The appreciation is projected to slow in the coming years, though, dropping to 2.9 percent in 2020.
