Among the potential impacts of the coronavirus pandemic is the potential for exacerbating the national affordable housing shortage. The disease has caused many apartment construction projects to be put on hold and prevented developers from breaking ground on new projects.
Over half of respondents to a National Multifamily Housing Council survey last month said they had experienced general delays in construction. Some 70 percent of new projects were not getting started on time.
The survey also found that the number of firms dealing with local moratoriums on multifamily projects reached 95 percent. Over one-quarter of respondents said they were having difficulty sourcing materials.
