The home automation sector has been all over the place, and is still without a dominant manufacturer.
Apple and Google are each vying for the smart house crown, according to Tech Radar. One issue with home automation is that each manufacturer has its own network protocol. In order to connect all devices, consumers must ensure all products come from the same maker.
Apple and Google are both pushing for their protocols to be accepted as the industry standard. Whichever network wins out, the supporting company’s products will become more valuable, and profits will rise. Apple uses low energy Bluetooth. Google has partnered with Samsung, a home technology manufacturer, for a protocol named Thread.
