An initiative backed by supporters of net metering would give Arizona voters the opportunity to preserve net metering for solar panel owners.
If voters say yes to the ballot question, utilities would have to continue to give solar customers a one-to-one credit for most of the excess power they send to the grid. Called Arizona Solar Energy Freedom Act, it seeks to amend the state Constitution. To be included on the November ballot, it will require 225,963 signatures by early July.
