The sun isn’t the only magnet for retirement these days – an active economy and affordable housing are luring today’s Baby Boomer retirees.
According to the Seattle Times, many retiring Baby Boomers are opting for cities and towns with job opportunities lest they get bored during the early stages of retirement.
One example is Neil Shapiro and his wife Rhonda Imhoff, who left the Chicago suburb of Northbrook, Ill., for Boise, Idaho.
“We wanted to come to a place where we want to live and work for a few more years,” Shapiro tells the Seattle Times. The city of 214,000 people has several universities that can provide part-time job opportunities and sporting events, as well as other amenities such as the Shakespeare festival and a theater for touring Broadway shows.
