Buyers who find New York City and Washington, D.C., too expensive can consider Philadelphia a viable — and walkable — option.
According to Redfin, 91 percent of new homes in Philly have a higher Walk Score than the citywide Walk Score of 78. The percentage is the highest in the nation, among cities with 200,000 people or more.
New mixed-use developments and residential construction in neighborhoods such as Fishtown, Frankford, and Point Breeze have contributed the most to Philadelphia’s increased walkability.
Other cities that have added large amounts of walkable housing include Chicago, Cleveland, and St. Petersburg, Fla.
On the other end, Greensboro, N.C., Corpus Christi, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M., have the least walkable new construction.
