According to NAHB analysis and the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, residential construction employment is picking up.
NAHB Eye on Housing reports that the number of open construction sector jobs was 148,000 in December, down from a high of 225,000 in July. The figures are both on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Home builder and remodeler jobs increased by 20,300 in January.
Over the last 12 months home builders and remodelers have added 128,000 jobs on a net basis. Since the low point of industry employment following the Great Recession, residential construction has gained 701,000 positions.
