Some residents rejoiced when Palo Alto, Calif., unanimously approved a request to ban new two-story homes or second-story additions in the Los Arboles neighborhood.
Others saw it as an unwise decision, considering the extraordinarily high demand and very low supply of housing in the region.
Proponents say the ban was to preserve the single-story aesthetic of Joseph Eichler’s signature style. Laura Bliss, a staff writer at CityLab, doesn’t buy it.
