Eco-friendly house in Denmark built by rapid-prototyping machine

A sustainable wood home in Denmark was built in just six weeks after its parts were produced using a rapid-prototyping machine. "No component of the construction is heavier than two men are able to carry, and the house can be built without cranes or heavy machinery," says Frederik Agdrup, one of the two Danish architects who designed the home in a joint venture with London-based Facit Homes. The 1,250 sf house was built from 400 Forest Stewardship Council-certified plywood components designed in digital software, fabricated using a CNC miller, then snapped together. All told, the house cost $300,000. The structure rests on 28 screw piles, in place of a concrete foundation, and can be disassembled and recycled.
