Owners of Eichler homes in the Bay area are up in arms about the growing number of neighbors who are knocking down the distinctive mid-century dwellings to build new, two-story homes. Residents of Palo Alto and Sunnyvale have waged zoning battles in City Hall to prevent the demolition of their Eichlers, which they regard as pieces of art.
