According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, from 2016 to 2017, 47 states increased employment. In November 2017, payroll employment rose nationwide.
The National Association of Home Builders says that the largest increases in employment were in Texas, California, and New York, ranging between 54,500 and 24,900 more employed in November than in October 2017. By percentage, Texas had the largest increase at 0.44 percent, while Alaska had the largest decrease in employment at 0.91 percent.
In November, out of the 44 states which reported construction sector jobs data, 34 states had an increase, and 10 states had a decline compared with October 2017. Year-over-year, Nevada had the highest annual growth in its construction sector at 13.83 percent. Rhode Island (12.97 percent), and New Hampshire (10.04 percent) round out the top three. Over this period, Iowa had the largest decline at 7.55 percent, followed by Missouri (5.31 percent) and North Dakota (4.85 percent).
