A new 547-unit development located in Davis, Calif., and known as The Cannery, is trying to capitalize on a growing trend across the country: Agrihoods.
An agrihood is a suburban community that is built around a shared farm, like golf course communities of the past. This particular agrihood is being built on the site of a Hunt-Wesson factory that canned tomatoes (hence the ‘Cannery’ name) from 1961 until it closed in 1999.
The Cannery is being developed by the New Home Company and plans on integrating a five-acre organic farm and a community clubhouse, which is designed to look like a traditional white farmhouse, to its design.
