Researchers are finding that the old retirement model of isolated, gated communities or large homes on golf courses is changing. Retirees and those transitioning toward retirement want to live within walking distance of basic services. Michael Glynn, a vice president with National Development in Boston, says that although towns are frightened by density, “If you build in the right, walkable location, it could do a lot of good for an 85-year-old.”
