It’s not likely that the Google-owned smart home company Nest will manufacture its own refrigerators or light bulbs, but a new system launched today may help the company reach every corner of the smart home.
Nest’s platform update, called Nest Weave, is designed to make other manufacturers and app developers build within the Nest ecosystem. This mirrors the phenomenon that pushed Android and iOS as the two leading mobile systems—by having third-party developers write in their respective languages.
“Nest acting as the gateway for the home? That’s exactly the company’s ambition, in part because it will make it more appealing for consumers to buy into the Nest ecosystem,” Fast Company reports.
