Americans like things big. Big trucks. Big meals. Big televisions. Everything. And houses are certainly not an exception to the rule.
In 2015, the size of the average home rose to 2,720-sf, up from 2,660-sf in 2014 according to data from the National Association of Home Builders, reports Realtor.com. Almost 50 percent of homes started in 2015 had four or more bedrooms and 25 percent had a garage with room for three or more cars.
In addition to the square footage, the average price of new homes for sale in 2015 grew as well. The average price of a new home for 2015 was $351,000, up $100,000 from 2009.
