Based on variables including the number of homes in the area, the share built in 1960s and 1970s, and owners’ average income, NAHB crunched the numbers to predict the average spending per improvement project in each of the nation’s 26,000 zip codes this year.
The national average is $6,148, but spending will vary depending on location, ranging from around $2,300 to over $22,000.
Owners in high-cost areas on the coasts, such as California, Florida, and New York, are expected to spend the most on remodeling this year.
