The Wall Street Journal reports that according to real estate agents, accessory-dwelling units are the hottest amenity in real estate for both domestic and foreign buyers.
Furthermore, having a stand-alone dwelling built on the homeowner’s property or an apartment carved out of the existing structure adds value to these homes. An analysis of real-estate listings by Zillow revealed that homes with accessory-dwelling units – colloquially known as in-law units – were priced about 60 percent higher than houses without them.
