Groundbreaking for single-family projects dipped by 2.0 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual pace of 1.07 million, Reuters reports.
Despite the dip, housing starts are still above the million-unit mark, and have been so for five straight months. Year-over-year, January 2015 starts were up by 18.7 percent.
Single-family housing, which has the largest share of the market, dropped 6.7 percent to a 678,000-unit pace.
