The Washington Post reports that Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro announced on Tuesday that his priorities are to boost homeownership and combat the nation’s rental housing crisis.
To expand homeownership, Castro says that he will work to get lenders to ease up so that homeownership can reach Americans without stellar credit. But ihe industry says it’s getting mixed messages from Washington – the government wants lenders to approve more mortgages, but also forced lenders to buy back billions of dollars in loans after the housing market unraveled.
