Students from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., won the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon with their hurricane-resistant, energy-efficient coastal home.
The design was inspired by Hurricane Sandy and Hoboken’s long history of flooding, NJ.com reports.
During the competition, the house was valued at $290,000, below the school’s estimate of $330,000.
