The career site Glassdoor found the places where jobs are plentiful, salaries are competitive, and homes are affordable.
CNBC reports that Houston, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and Memphis are among the cities with the highest cost of living ratios, based on the place’s median base salary divided by its median home value.
All of the cities on the list are located in the Midwest or South, except for Buffalo, N.Y., and Detroit was ranked first.
Noticeably missing are some of America's biggest cities. While you can certainly earn more in hubs like New York and San Francisco, fewer people can afford to buy a house or an apartment there.
