During the EXPO Milano 2015 back in May, Swedish furniture retailer Ikea showcased what it thinks kitchens in 10 years might look like.
In The Concept Kitchen 2025, a collaboration between Ikea and global design firm IDEO London, several familiar things were missing, most notably the stove and the fridge.
Homeowners will instead store their food on customizable shelves where each container and rack has a specific temperature it could be set to. The kitchen island, seemingly a simple, wooden-top one, actually projects touch-screen ingredients and hidden induction coils that heat the inside of pots and pans rather than the surface.
