L.A. bans oversized additions and teardowns for McMansions

The Los Angeles City Council recently banned residents and builders in 20 communities from expanding their homes with oversized additions or tearing them down to replace them with so-called “McMansions.”

The action came after a city report said oversized homes are threatening the “cohesion and character” of neighborhoods and historic districts. The ban is in place for two years, and restricts the size of single-family homes by neighborhood.
