Floods in Louisiana forced many people to leave the state to seek safety. Not all of them will return.
CNN Money reports that an estimated 60,000 homes have been damaged by flooding. A shortage of available housing, combined with the closure of many small businesses and a loss of jobs in the local oil industry, will make it tough for many residents to rebuild.
Louisiana’s population dipped by 6 percent after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but the recent floods aren’t expected to have that large of an impact.
