A new 19-home luxury development in Santa Monica, Calif., will offer some inventive green features. AIRE, which will have units starting at $900,000, will offer low-water plants, a green wall, decks made of rice husk, and a bike room.
The Los Angeles Times reports that luxury developers in Southern California are making their properties as eco-friendly as possible. They are finding that residents want filtered air and water, nontoxic paints and adhesives, and energy and water efficient fixtures.
Bikes are also part of the plan at the upcoming Beverly Hills apartment building, Ten Thousand, with units starting at $9,000 a month. The high-rise will offer electric bikes that residents can use free. It also plans to harvest rainwater, to be used for more than 100 trees being planted in a one-acre park on-site.
