A recent survey of technology adoption in local government found that only 21 percent of U.S. city planning departments offer online permitting, CityLab reports.
The survey, released by Planetizen, used 12 criteria to evaluate the planning departments of 527 cities in three separate population categories: under 100,000, 100,000 to 199,000, and over 200,000. Out of these cities, 83 percent of city planning departments offer their zoning codes online, but just 15 percent use responsive design on their sites.
