A recent Trulia survey revealed that 19 percent of Americans indicated that their “dream home is located in a great school district.”
The number jumps to 35 percent when respondents are filtered to include only households with children under 18. The online listing service site pulled numbers from its users’ listings, looking at how many times the word “school” was used with a positive adjective such as “great,” “winning,” “rated,” and so on.
They found that schools matter most to homebuyers in California, where school districts “can vary from being great to awful.”
The top five markets with the highest percentage of school mentions in Trulia’s listings are:
- Orange County, Calif., 27.6 percent
- San Jose, Calif., 25.3 percent
- Montgomery County-Bucks County-Chester County, Penn., 22.5 percent
- Grand Rapids, Mich., 18.8 percent
- Ventura County, Calif., 18.3 percent
