One midcentury modern home in Texas offers a rare glimpse of the tenor of the period: The original homeowners built a fallout shelter in the backyard.
“During the Cuban missile crisis the owner must have gotten a little paranoid and had his builder construct this fallout shelter in the backyard,” listing agent Derrik Davis told Realtor.com.
The recently unearthed shelter comes complete with maps, a radio transmitter, and some unopened canned food in its original packaging.
Fallout shelter aside, the main home offers floor-to-ceiling views of the wooded surroundings, and features a spacious porch to enjoy the fresh air.
