Cities in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan are demolishing tens of thousands of abandoned homes to reduce crime and reverse falling real estate prices. Once meant for fixing up blighted homes, funds from the U.S. Department of Treasury’s $7.6 billion Hardest Hit Fund is paying for the demolition. Counties are kicking in additional funding as the newly vacant lots are converted to green spaces.
