Despite Millennial demand, the high costs of labor, land, and meeting regulation standards in cities mean that builders are having a hard time keeping up pace in the areas where Millennials want to live. The places where land is cheap and reasonable for builders to jump on are dozens of miles away from popular urban areas and market hot spots. But the current tension may be alleviated by Millennials eventually moving out further from the cities to chase larger, more affordable homes and good school districts as they begin to raise families.
