In part due to an elevated construction pace in February, single-family housing starts were flat in May, according to NAHB.
But, according to estimates from the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the May rate indicates a 10 percent rise in the pace of single-family construction on a year-over-year basis.
There were 435,000 single-family homes under construction in May, the highest figure since October 2008.
