The Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program ranks top advanced industry hotspots in the U.S.
Automotive and aerospace manufacturing have an outsized role in powering these regions' economic growth. Other industries include energy activities and digital services such as computer system design.
According to Brookings, only a limited number of U.S. metro areas retain “truly dense and diverse advanced industry bases.” Metro areas where advanced industries employ the biggest share of the workforce include San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif.; Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Wash., and Wichita, Kan.
