Physically, the new third-generation Nest thermostat is only a millimeter thinner and has a slightly larger homescreen. In practice, it does much more than older versions.
Fast Co. Design covers a few of the new Nest features. Farsight senses how far away users are from the device. If you’re across the room, the temperature is shown in big numerals. If you move closer, say three feet away, the screen changes, making the numbers smaller and showing additional information that would be indiscernible from farther away.
Other new aspects of the Nest include an octagonal display and a rearrangement of its antenna.
