New Washington, D.C., zoning could make tiny houses easier to get permitted

Changes to Washington, D.C.’s zoning regulations could make it significantly easier to build a tiny house in the area.

After the new zoning ordinance goes into effect this September, many landowners in outlying DC neighborhoods will have the right to build and rent small dwellings. The loosening of the rules could help to alleviate the housing shortage, advocates say. Some architecture firms are already designing tiny homes for an expected uptick in demand.
