Two cities in New York State have bounced back nicely in the housing market since the recession.
Market Watch examined a WalletHub.com study, which gives an account of the levels of equity in homes, the size of down payments and years left on a mortgage in the 25 biggest metro areas in the country.
New York City had the highest level of home equity at 47 percent, which is higher than the national average of 30 percent, and significantly higher than the last-place metro area in the category (Las Vegas, at 12 percent). New York also has the lowest percentage of down payments from zero to 10 percent, at 34 percent.
Rochester, meanwhile, has the fewest underwater mortgages (6.1 percent) and the shortest time until mortgage is paid (17 years).
