North Carolina Utilities Commission rejects test case of third-party solar power sales

The North Carolina Utilities Commission rejected a test case that challenged the ability of solar energy developers other than utilities to sell electricity directly to their customers.

The commission ruled that a group called NC WARN, which has installed solar panels on the roof of Greensboro’s Faith Community Church, cannot sell electricity directly to customers. NC WARN says the state Utilities Commission made several errors in its ruling, and that it will take the case to the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
