Skilled-workers with six-figure salaries in oil boom areas like North Dakota and Colorado help increase demand for new homes, but there’s no one to build them.
An owner of The MacDonald Companies, a home builder in Kerrville, Texas, tells CNN Money that even when a new construction worker is hired for a job, often times it won’t take long before he’s poached by an oil company. And as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and other trade workers go on to work for the oil services companies, builders have to constantly rehire and train new people.
