A house in Bend, Ore., recently became the first single-family home in the United States to earn Living Building certification. The home, named Desert Rain, is composed of four structures: a house, an accessory dwelling unit, and two garages. The structures total about 5,500 sf of space. The site includes an “underground constructed wetland” — a system that cleanses gray water on site without chemicals.
