Renters in New York City and San Francisco that aren’t spending their entire paycheck on rent are basically considered winners. But, there are several other places where people can pay the rent and still have lots of money left over.
Through data from LinkedIn, CNBC found five cities where renters have the most disposable income, based on the percentage of the median income not spent on rent or taxes. People in Pittsburgh, Nashville, Tampa, Indianapolis, and Houston still have more than 50 percent of their income remaining after paying for housing.
According a 2016 report from Harvard University, the number of cost-burdened renters (people who spend over 30 percent of their income on housing) is at an all-time high.
