A proposal to construct a large house on the side of Camelback Mountain in metro Phoenix has reignited a battle to preserve the landmark feature.
The proposed home exceeds several limits set by Paradise Valley’s hillside ordinance that restrict what can be built on Camelback Mountain, Mummy Mountain, and the Phoenix Mountains.
In its variance request, Tsontakis Architecture, says that the lot’s extreme topography makes it unbuildable without a unique design. A local lawyer said she believes the city's decision could set a precedent for future cases involving undeveloped lots.
