A recently released 2013 American Community Survey (ACS) indicated that New Jersey once again leads the nation with the highest median real estate tax bill at $7,331, the NAHB reports.
The lowest in the nation, Alabama, has a median bill of $532. The NAHB further reports that there was little movement from the 2012 ACS list as the rankings of the top and bottom ten remain the same. As far as regions are concerned, generally the highest property taxes are found in the Northeast while the lowest are in the South.
