As a whole, the housing market has experienced a strong rebound since the recession, and home values in San Jose and San Francisco have appreciated well beyond past peaks. The recovery, though, isn’t even across all the metros.
Housing Perspectives reports that as of June, median home prices in only a third of all metro areas (162 of 474) had regained mid-2000s peak values.
Some of the metros with the best price gains benefitted from low declines during the recession, which skews the overall data. Also, home values remain far below mid-2000s peaks in several areas, including metros in California, Florida, Arizona, and Nevada.
