The HUD and Census Bureau's recently released 2013 American Housing Survey reveals residents of newly built homes are more likely to bike or walk, the NAHB reports.
The data also show that this occurs even though many trip destinations are less often accessible by biking or walking to households in new homes. However, new homes are more likely to be built in neighborhoods with amenities designed to facilitate walking and biking. Over 61 percent of respondents in new homes say that their neighborhoods have sidewalks, whereas for households overall, the number was 55.7 percent.
